Prepare Your Business for Wisconsin Winter Weather

We all know how harsh and unforgiving our northern Wisconsin winters can be! We believe the secret to having a safe and enjoyable winter as a business owner is to be well prepared. SERVPRO of Barron, Dunn & Rusk Counties has some tips to help your Wisconsin business through the winter.
- Ensure that your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are in good working order. Regularly replace the batteries. This is especially important if you plan to use a generator.
- If you don’t already have one, consider buying a generator. Generators can be particularly useful if you have walk in coolers or other types of food storage that require electricity. A generator can also help avoid or minimize commercial property damage due to freezing temperatures.
- Generously salt your sidewalks prior to, during and after winter storms to prevent slippery situations. Non slip mats can also be helpful in high foot traffic areas. You should also have a plan in place for snow removal from parking lots and sidewalks.
- To prevent frozen pipes, consider adding foam insulation or heat tape to areas that are not well insulated. Frozen pipes can burst and cause all sorts of damage. Buildings should always be kept at at least 55 degrees.
